Abstract

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to determine the morphological characteristics and truss morphometrics that can be used to distinguish male and female selar bengol fish. This research using survey methods those are taken by simple random sampling technique. The variables consist of morphological characters and the truss morphometrics. The parameters those are measured based on distance truss which is divided by standard length. Morphological characters observations include the body shape, position of the mouth, the shape of the tail fins, the type of scales, and the type of teeth. Truss morphometrics characters those are measured by a set distance of 13 points. Morphological character data is analyzed descriptively while the truss morphometric character is analyzed by t- test. The results of the study showed that the morphological character cannot be used as a differentiator of male and female selarĀ  bengol fish while the character of the truss morfometrics can serve as a differentiator on the body and caudal pudencle. Female bengol selar fish generally have a higher body than male bengol selar fish, while male bengol selar fish have a higher caudal pudencle than female bengol selar fish.
