Abstract


This study aims to compare the application of portfolio and performance assessment on prospective mathematics teacher who enrolled mathematics learning strategies course. Portfolio assessment is a systematic and organized collection of student work, showcasing their skills and achievements, while performance assessment refers to tasks and situations that allow students to demonstrate their understanding and thinking, as well as apply their knowledge and skills in various contexts. This study employed a quantitative research approach, specifically an experimental method and a posttest-only control design. The posttest results were statistically analyzed using an independent sample t-test. The findings of this study indicate a significant difference between the students who used portfolio assessment and those who engaged in learning through performance assessment. It reflects the influence of each type of assessment on students' understanding and achievement in the mathematics learning strategies course. This research potentially offers valuable insights for the development of assessment methods in teacher education, particularly in courses related to the development of teaching strategies.
