Abstract

There is a growing interest in technology-based English as Foreign Language (EFL) learning in private universities in Bangladesh. As the global educational paradigm shifts towards digital integration, it is crucial to examine the landscape of technology-based EFL learning. This study aims to identify the major challenges that hinder the effective implementation of technology in EFL classrooms and propose viable solutions. A mixed-methods approach combining qualitative and quantitative methods was applied to gather comprehensive data. The results reveal multifaceted challenges faced by both educators and students, including issues related to infrastructure limitations, digital literacy gaps, pedagogical concerns, and socio- cultural factors. The study emphasizes the importance of aligning technological interventions with the unique needs and contexts of EFL learners in Bangladesh. Despite these challenges, there is a palpable enthusiasm for integrating technology into language learning, suggesting a promising avenue for improvement. Most students admitted to facing technical challenges while running their EFL learning. Therefore, the article proposes  a  series  of  practical  propositions  aimed  at  enhancing  the  efficacy  of  technology-based  EFL learning. These recommendations include targeted professional development for educators, strategic investment in digital infrastructure, culturally contextualized content development, and fostering a collaborative learning environment. This research provides valuable insights for educators, administrators, and policymakers seeking to navigate the complexities of technology integration in EFL education within the context of private universities in Bangladesh. By addressing the challenges and embracing the proposed strategies, stakeholders can foster a more inclusive, dynamic, and effective learning environment for EFL students in the digital age.
