Focus and Scope

ELT Worldwide: Journal of English Language Teaching is a peer reviewed and open access journal published by the English Language Education Graduate Program of the State University of Makassar, Indonesia. The principle aim is to publish research articles of English Language Education practices around the world. The scope of the journal welcomes articles from local and foreign academics, researchers, graduate students and policy makers. All articles are required to be in English. ELT Worldwide primarily accepts articles to publish dealing with: (1) Language Teaching Methodology, (2) ICT in ELT, (3) Language Teaching & Culture, (4) Language Immersion, (5) Contemporary Language Testing & Assessment, (6) Applied linguistics, (7) ELT Curriculum development, (8) Multiculturalism in Language Learning, (9) English for Specific Purposes (ESP), (10) Professional Development, and (11) Bilingual Education.

Peer Review Process

All submitted author’s manuscripts are read by the editorial board in ELT Worldwide.

ELT Worldwide is committed to peer-review integrity and upholding the standards of review. Once your paper has been assessed for suitability by the editor, it will then be single-blind peer reviewed by independent, anonymous expert referees. ELT Worldwide: Journal of English Language Teaching Review Guideline:

Step 1: Editorial assessment

Peer review follows a number of stages, beginning with submitting your article to a journal. At this first stage, the journal editor will decide if it’s suitable for the journal, asking questions such as: • Has the author followed the journal’s guidelines? • Is this focus of the article right for the journal? • Will the journal’s readers find it interesting and useful? The editor might reject the article immediately, but otherwise it will move to the next stage, and into peer review.

Step 2: First round of peer review

The editor will find and contact potential referees or other researchers or academics who are experts in your field. They will be asked to read your article, and advise the editor whether to publish your paper in that journal

Step 3: Revise and resubmit

You can then amend your article based on the reviewers’ comments, resubmitting it with any or all changes made. You may be asked to make further revisions or the paper may be rejected if the editor thinks that the revisions you have made are not adequate.

The editor-in-chief of ELT Worldwide: Journal of English Language Teaching has full right to choose which submitted manuscripts to the journal should be published after following the editorial process.

Open Access Policy

ELT Worldwide: Journal of English Language Teaching is a peer reviewed journal with open access policy. The article processing or delivery of the manuscript submitted to the manager or editor through an online system or by using the OJS Open Access publishing model.

In this publishing model, papers are pprocessed through blind peer-review under editorial control. The paper appears electronically and freely available fro
m our website. Authors can also use articles that have been published in pdf format either for non-commercial use on a personal website or non-commercial institutions. Users have the right to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full text of articles ELT Wordldwide

 

Archiving

We ensure the journal including all the documents are saved, so it is electronically archived for protection and recovery. These archives include:

Author Guidelines

Author Guidelines

You can use this list to carry out a final check of your submission before you send it to the journal for review.

  1. Is your manuscript adhere to the minimum standards? (written in English; the length of submitted paper is at least 4 pages and no more than 16 pages; use of a tool such as EndNote, Mendeley, or Zoterofor reference management and formatting, and choose APA style) 
  2. Is your manuscript written in ELT WORLDWIDE format?  At this stage, it is essential that you follow every detail of the journal format. Please try to follow the format as closely as possible.
  3. is your title adequate and is your abstract correctly written? The title of paper is max 10 words, without Acronym or abbreviation. The Abstract (MAX 200 WORDS) should be informative and completely self-explanatory (no citation in abstract), provide a clear statement of the problem, the proposedapproach or solution, and point out major findings and conclusions.
  4. Authors are suggested to present their articles in the sections structure: Introduction - The Proposed Method/Algorithm/Procedure specifically designed (optional) - Research Method - Results and Discussion – Conclusion. Authors may present complex proofs of theorems or non-obvious proofs of correctness of algorithms after introduction section (obvious theorems & straightforward proofs of existing theorems are NOT needed).
  5. Introduction section: explain the context of the study and state the precise objective. An Introduction should contain the following three parts:
    - Background: Authors should make clear what the context is. Ideally, authors should give an idea of the novelty of the field in which the report is about.
    - The Problem: If there was no problem, there would be no reason for writing a manuscript, and definitely no reason for reading it. So, please tell readers why they should proceed reading. Experience shows that for this part a few lines are often sufficient.
    - The Proposed Solution: Now and only now! - authors may outline the contribution of the manuscript. Here authors should make sure readers point out what are the novel aspects of authors work.
    Authors should place the paper in proper context by citing relevant papers. At least, 5 references (recently journal articles) are used in this section.
  6. Method section: the presentation of the experimental methods should be clear and complete in every detail facilitating reproducibility by other scientists.
  7. Results and discussion section: The presentation of results should be simple and straightforward in style. This section reports the most important findings, including results of statistical analyses as appropriate and comparisons to other research results. Results given in figures should not be repeated in tables. This is where the author(s) should explain in words what he/she/they discovered in the research. It should be clearly laid out and in a logical sequence. This section should be supported suitable references.
  8. Conclusion section: Summarize the primary outcomes of the study in a paragraph. Are the claims in this section supported by the results, do they seem reasonable? Have the authors indicated how the results relate to expectations and to earlier research? Does the article support or contradict previous theories? Does the conclusion explain how the research has moved the body of scientific knowledge forward?
  9. Language. If an article is poorly written due to grammatical errors, while it may make it more difficult to understand the science.
  10. Please be sure that the manuscript is up to date. It is expected that 10 to 20% of references are to recent papers.
  11. Is the manuscript clearly written?  Is the article exciting? Does the content flow well from one section to another? Please try to keep your manuscript on the proper level.  It should be easy to understand by well qualified professionals, but at the same time please avoid describing well known facts (use proper references instead). Often manuscripts receive negative reviews because reviewers are not able to understand the manuscript, and this is due to authors' (not reviewers') fault.  Notice, that if reviewers have difficulties, then other readers will face the same problem and there is no reason to publish the manuscript.
  12. Do you have enough references?  We will usually expect a minimum of 10 to 25 references primarily to journal papers, depending on the length of the paper. Citations of textbooks should be used very rarely and citations to web pages should be avoided. All cited papers should be referenced within the text of the manuscript.
  13. Figures and Tables. Relation of Tables or Figures and Text: Because tables and figures supplement the text, all tables and figures should be referenced in the text. Authors should also explain what the reader should look for when using the table or figure. Focus only on the important point the reader should draw from them and leave the details for the reader to examine on their own.

    Figures:
     All figures appearing in article must be numbered in the order that they appear in the text.
    b.    Each figure must have a caption fully explaining the content
    c.    Figure captions are presented as a paragraph starting with the figure number i.e. Figure 1, Figure 2, etc.
    d.    Figure captions appear below the figure
    e.    Each figure must be fully cited if taken from another article
    f.    all figures must be referred to in the body of the article

    Tables:
    a.    Material that is tabular in nature must appear in a numbered captioned table.
    b.    All tables appearing in article must be numbered in the order that they appear in the text.
    c.    Each table must have a caption fully explaining the content with the table number  i.e. Table 1, Table 2, etc.
    d.    Each column must have a clear and concise heading
    e.    Tables are to be presented with single horizontal line under: the table caption, the column headings and at the end of the table.
    f.    All tables must be referred to in the body of the article
    g.    Each table must be fully cited if taken from another article
  14. A basic reference list entry for a journal article in APA must include; (a) Author or authors. The surname is followed by first initials. (b) Year of publication of the article (in round brackets). (c) Article title. (d) Journal title (in italics). (e) Volume of journal (in italics). (f) Issue number of journal in round brackets (no italics). (g) Page range of article. and (h) DOI or URL.

  1. Self-citations: to control for citation manipulation (COPE, 2019), this journal asks that authors keep self-citation to a minimum. We would strongly recommend no more than 5 (including jointly authored publications), or 20% self-citations, whichever number is lower.
  2. Please be aware that for the final submission of regular paper you will be asked to tailor your paper, so the last page is not half empty.

 

Submission Statement and Validation

A manuscript submitted signifies that the work stated has not been published previously, that is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, that its publication is accepted by all authors. And that, if accepted, it will not be published elsewhere in the same format, in English, Bahasa, Arabic, or in any other language, including electronically without the written agreement of the copyright holder.

To verify originality, your manuscript may be checked by the service of plagiarism detection via Grammarly and iThenticate.

 

Digital Archiving

We ensure the journal including all the documents are saved, so it is electronically archived through the system in Indonesia OneSearch (IOS, ISJD, and Locckks provided by PKP to create persistent archives of the journal for protection and recovery.

Publication Ethics

ELT Worldwide: is a Journal of English Language Teaching published by the English Language Education Graduate Program of the State University of Makassar, Indonesia. This journal publishes research articles of English Language Education practices around the world. The editors welcome experts and researchers of ELT from all over the world to share their inventions here for free

The statement of scientific publication code ethics is based on the LIPI Regulation Number 5 in 2014 about Scientific Publication Code Ethics, which uphold 3 ethic values in publication, they are: (i) neutrality, it is clear from conflict of interest in the publication processing; (ii) justice, it gives right to the writer to claim his/her papers; and (iii) Honesty, it is clear from duplicating, fabricating, falsification, and plagiarism (DF2P) in publication.       

Duties and Responsibilities of the journal processor 

  1. Deciding the title of the journal, the study scope, the period, and accreditation if it is necessary.
  2. Arranging the membership of editor committee.
  3. Defining the relationship between the publisher, editor, experts, and other participants in the agreement.    
  4. Respecting to the confidential things, whether it is for the contributed researchers, writers/authors, editors, and experts.
  5. Applying norms and conditions about the rights of intellectual properties, especially the copyrights.
  6. Studying the journal policies and deliver them to the authors/writers.
  7. Creating code ethics guidance for editors and experts.
  8. Publishing the journal regularly.
  9. Giving guarantee the availability of funding sources for the continuity of journal publication.
  10. Setting networks and marketing.
  11.   Preparing the license and other legalizing things.

Duties and Responsibilities of editors

  1. Meeting the readers and authors/writers requirements.
  2.  Attempting to the increasing of publication quality continuously.
  3.  Applying the process to assuring the quality of published papers/articles.
  4. Promoting freedom of ideas objectively.
  5. Maintaining the integrity of academic track record of the authors/writers.
  6.  Submitting corrections, clarifications, returning, apologizing if necessary.
  7. Responsible for the style and form the writing, whilst the content and any statements written in the writing is the responsibility of the writers/authors.
  8. Actively asking the writer/authors, readers, experts, and the editors committee about their opinion and suggestion to increase the publication quality.
  9. Promoting the assessment to the journal for each finding.
  10. Supporting the ideas to decrease the research and publication errors by having the authors/writers to enclose their Ethic Clearance forms that have been approved by the Ethic Clearance Commission.
  11. Participating ideas to educate the researchers about publication ethics.
  12. Studying the effects of publication policies on the writers/authors and experts and fixing it in order to increase the responsibilities and minimize the errors.
  13. Having open-minded attitude toward the new or others ideas which possibly oppose personal view. 
  14. Do not force on his/her own view, authors/writers or third parties view that can cause in giving subjective decision.
  15. Motivate the authors/writers in order to do constructive improvement to have the proper publications.

Duties and responsibilities of experts

  1. Commanding duties from the editors committee to review the papers and deliver the results to the editors to determine a proper published paper.
  2. The reviewers cannot review a paper which involves him/her self directly or indirectly.
  3. Keeping the privacy of the authors to not publish the corrections, suggestions, and recommendations by giving critics, suggestions, and recommendations.
  4. Encourage the authors/writers to do improvement to their papers.
  5. Review again the papers that have been reviewed based on the standards.
  6. The papers are reviewed in time based on the scientific standard form determined (Data collection method, the authorization of the author, conclusion, etc).

Duties and Responsibilities of the authors/writers

  1. Ensure that the author who registers has met the requirements as an author.
  2. Collectively responsible for his profession and the content of the article including the method, analysis, calculation/measurement, and details.
  3. State the sources (including fund) directly or indirectly.
  4. Explain the limits in his/her writing.
  5. Give response to the correction given by the expert professionally and on time.
  6. Inform to the editor if she/he wants to cancel his/her participation.
  7. Make a statement letter stated that the paper is genuine, never published in other publishers and in any other languages, and not in process of proposing to the other publishers.
