Abstract

The science learning process at SMPN 3 Penukal has problems related to learning activities that still use the conventional method using only the lecture method. Learning takes place in one direction, students are more informed and not given the opportunity to find out, so learning takes place passively. Students' learning activities listen more and record the information conveyed by the teacher, as a result learning becomes meaningless for students. This study aims to increase student learning activities through the application of the PBL model with the discussion method in class VIII.1 SMPN 3 Penukal, totaling 19 people. This type of research is Classroom Action Research with data collection techniques through observation. Based on data analysis, the results obtained in the first cycle only 36.84% of students were active. This shows that the success indicator has not been achieved, namely 75%. In the second cycle, it has shown an increase to 78.94% of active students. Then in the third cycle the active students reached 94.76%. Thus it can be concluded that the application of the PBL model with the Discussion method increases the learning activities of class VIII students of SMPN 3 Penukal.
