Abstract


Barru is one of the regions in South Sulawesi that has a large number of palmyra trees (Borassus flabellifer) and is very possible for the development of brown sugar industry center as well as its diversification of palm sap. Currently, the management of brown sugar in business group partner is still traditional. It affects the quality of brown sugar, different sizes of the sugar, as well as the variation and traditional molds. The most basic problem is related to the lack of knowledge and skills of business group partners have in processing brown sugar, the lack of equipments, and the diversification of processed palm sap which can motivate the business group to develop other products made of palm sap. Based on the description of the problems faced by the business group (Riaja Pujananting and Jangang-jangang), this Community Partnership Program interested in conducting community service to train and mentor, transfer technology, and develop a good and true process of processing brown sugar and the diversification of other products made of palm sugar (castor sugar, and nata de palm), the packaging and labeling process. This activity produces brown sugar with National Standard number 01-6237-2000 and the development of other processed palm sap products with competitive quality.
