Abstract


Abstract: This study aims to (i) know the level of understanding of UNM student’s experiencing misconceptions, understand the concept and do not understand the concept about cell biology using CRI method and (ii) know the factors that are suspected as the cause of misconception in the biology student of Makassar State University This research includes descriptive research. In this study, the CRI (Certainty of Response Index) method was using to identify student’s misconceptions. Population in this research is all student of study program of biology of UNM class 2015. Samples in this research as many as 20 people who tried randomly. Instruments is  diagnostic test with CRI and interview methods to determine the causes of misconceptions. The result of data analysis of the level of understanding of students at the State University of Makassar on cell biology materials using CRI method that is 20.35% of students who misconception about cell biology, 25.36% who understand cell biology and 54.29% who do not understand cell biological material. The factors that are suspected as the cause of student misconception on cell biology are: (1) very much to understand in studying cell biology, (2) difficulty in recalling material, (3) less mastery of student material, (4) difficulty in understanding a certain term, (5) difficult to reason with matter, (6) wrong in relating the structure and function of an organel, (7) looking at images / diagrams from other sources / books incorrectly, (8) not getting information, both in learning and learning resources, (9) explanations in textbooks are considered difficult to understand and (10) initial assumptions about the material brought from high school.
