Abstract

Abstract: The big challenge of high education is to increase the high-order thinking skill of student. The objective of this research is to know the effectiviness of MELS in general biology lecture in biology study program of State University of Makassar. This is Pre-experimental reasearch used One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design involving one group that has been given pretest and posttest. Independent variable in this research is the application of MELS and the dependent variable is learning outcomes. The instrument research is multiple choice test. Data collection technique is conducted through Pretest before applying MELS and Posttest after applying MELS. Data analyze technique using descriptive statistical analysis and inferential statistical analysis with t-test and normalized gain test. Average of pretest learning outcomes is 29,61. Average of posttest learning outcomes is 78,45. Average of gain score of increase student learning outcomes is 0,72. Analyze result of SPSS posttest showing that tcounted=5,963(db=66) and p=0,000 and distribution table valuet(0.95;dk=66) =1,78, it means that average of posttest is higher than completeness criteria of class. Gain value of learning outcomes showing tcounted=22,612 (db=66) and p=0,000 and distribution table value t(0.95;dk=66)=1,78, it means that the normalized gain value is higher than 0,3 (0,6790=medium category).

Keywords: effectivity, learning outcomes, experiential learning model with scaffolding.
