Abstract


Abstract:     The construction of facilities and infrastructure in urban areas become necessary due to limited resources and the land there will be a conversion of green open spaces to meet those needs. Makassar as the capital city of South Sulawesi province with an area of 175.77 km2 with a population of approximately predictions 2,390,242 (2020), an example of the phenomenon. Makassar with a predicted population of that size requires at least 1195.12 hectare green space or appropriate mandate Law. 26 of 2007 on Spatial Planning, City of Makassar lack RTH 5000 hectare (30 percent of the total area of the Makassar City). If education is used as a green space optimization solutions in Makassar, the way that can be taken is to integrate the material/theme of green space in the curriculum to primary education, secondary and higher education. In primary and secondary education can be integrated in suitable standard and basic competencies. At the college level, the material of green open spaces can be accommodated at the lecture for Environmental Science. In addition to integrating the curriculum, use of green space as a learning resource for students to use learning approach Learning Based on Environmental. This approach is a form of contextual learning with core activities such as nature exploration around by learners. Besides the involvement of the school community or campus residents in improving the quality of green space can do intra-and extra-curricular activities by planting various types of plants or trees of different species to create a layered structure on the existing green space areas (intensification). This intensification way bigger chances to be implemented because of the small possibility of remedy performed extensive additions (extension) green open spaces because of limited area.
